With road, ferry, rail and air access, Prince Rupert is the beginning of adventure in northern British Columbia, including Haida Gwaii / Queen Charlotte Islands, or Southeast Alaska and Vancouver Island. You can make Prince Rupert your convenient home base as you make trips to outlying areas.
- Land access from Prince George is by Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway 16. Connections north from Vancouver, south from Dawson Creek (Highway 97) or west from Alberta (Highway 16), can be made in Prince George. Connect with Highway 37 east of Terrace for travel south from Stewart/Hyder and the Yukon, or north from Kitimat.
- BC Ferries and the Alaska Marine Highway System operate year-round routes to Prince Rupert. ¥ VIA Rail offers daylight service between Prince Rupert and Jasper, stopping overnight in Prince George. Three arrivals and departures a week.
- Air Canada Jazz flies twice daily from Vancouver International Airport connecting with domestic and international carriers. Hawkair flies daily from Vancouver's convenient South Terminal. Flying time is approximately two hours.
- Greyhound Bus Lines offers twice-a-day service between Prince Rupert and Prince George, with connections to points north, south and east.
- Ferries offer year-round service, cruising with or without your vehicle. Attractive passenger lounges with large viewing windows, outdoor observation areas, food service, cabins, and gift shops on these ships cater to passenger comfort.
The cruise between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert offers a exciting journey along BC's Inside Passage. During peak season there are frequent sailings to Skidegate in Haida Gwaii / Queen Charlotte Islands.
Three ferries of the Alaska Marine Highway fleet provide regular summer connections between Prince Rupert and ports in Southeast Alaska. From May to September there are 3-5 departures a week. These vessels also carry vehicles and offer cabins and amenities.
Vehicle space sells quickly, so advance booking is highly recommended. There is often space for those travelling without vehicles, so be sure to inquire.
